Domestic Life

Let's start with markets and food.

This shop in Madurai really specializes in bananas!
Market Day in Kadiyapatti -- mostly fruits and vegetables, but there were also stands selling fish and chicken.
Also gardening pots.
Once home, you have to prepare the food.

Peeling and chopping vegetables in the kitchen of a house in Karaikudi.
Same kitchen: cooking over a traditional wood-fire.
The result: a traditional Chettinad lunch served on a banana leaf and eaten with fingers.
The family who owned the houses featured in this post and the next also own the guest house and restaurant where we had lunch.
