Karaikudi & Kadiyapatti Temples

It would be difficult to cram more into a day than we did. I'll do the temples first.

The temple at Karaikudi was an example of a "clan" temple -- built and supported by an extended Chettinad family.

The temple tank at Karaikudi. After watching women do laundry in this water, I've decided that maybe Vapi's water isn't that bad after all!

Next we went across the street to the temple ashram. We were fortunate to see a music class in session.

Students learning to play a traditional double-reed instrument.
The guru.

A bit later we visited the Aiyanar temple in Kadiyapatti. This temple is dedicated to fertility -- families donate terra cotta animals (mostly horses and cows) as offerings for a son. Pre-menupausal women are not allowed past a certain point.

A line of terra cotta horses with a few cows and an elephant in the mix.
A small elephant statue.
