Thanjavur - Part 2

Palace Area

The Thanjavur Maratha Palace was built by Marathi conquerors in the 18th Century. The complex also houses a museum of bronzes and a library.

The Saraswati Mahal Library houses a collection of manuscripts and rare books. A selection is on display.
Entrance to the Bronze Museum.
Bronze Museum: Seven young women swoon at the sight of Shiva.
Bronze Museum: Shiva as Nataraja -- Lord of the Dance.
Goats hanging out in the palace courtyard. I've seen far more goats than cows in Tamil Nadu
-- and nary a buffalo in sight.
The raja's audience pavilion in the palace.
Palace: A stone carving of the wedding of Shiva and Parvati.
On this trip it appears that Nandi Bulls are my bovine subject of choice.
This one is in the palace courtyard.
