Munnar

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

After a wonderful home-style Kerala lunch, we headed to Eravikulam National Park, just north of Munnar. The mist and rain came and went and came and went while we were walking on the short (1 km) trail in the southern-most part of the park.

Most of the time the view was largely obscured with fog.
But then the mist would clear in  just a few seconds, only to return.
We got lucky and were able to see a Nilgiri Tahr (ibex). David spotted it through the mist.
David was also good at seeing this green snake in the thick brush.
A shrine just off the trail.
A school bus travels the road through tea plantations.
When the mist cleared, the grasslands and "shola" forest (in sheltered coves on the mountain) could be clearly seen.
Guess who?
Looking down the valley.
Our inn for the night, Windermere Estate, has a viewing platform on top of a large boulder with great 360° views (when it's not too misty to see!).
