We spent leisurely day in Colombo adjusting to a time zone nearly half-way around the globe. In the afternoon we walked about 3 miles (5 km) along the shore. It was warm (30+ °C, pushing 90°C), but the humidity was the real issue.

| Our turn-around point was the lighthouse. Our map calls it the Gabokka Point Lighthouse, while our guidebook calls it the Old Galle Buck Lighthouse. Doesn't really matter -- it's the only lighthouse around |

| On our way back we saw a large reptile swimming in an inlet. It resembles those classic photos of the Loch Ness Monster. At first we thought it was a crocodile of some sort. |

| But the forked tongue meant it was either a very large sea snake, or, more likely, a monitor lizard. |
